5 domain names (not subdomains) one one installation?

Hi,

I will describe what I want to do, and if somebody can tell me if this is possible, that would be great.

Client is a restaurant, with 4 locations/concept.

They already have 1 domain name booked for the 4 locations and at the moment, they have 3 different sites set up.

The best would be to have:
– 1 common homepage (www.restaurant.com) which redirects to all 4 sites
(Links towards http://www.restaurant1.com / http://www.restaurant2.com / http://www.restaurant3.com / http://www.restaurant4.com)
– 1 WordPress Installation for the 4 sites (Same Theme but with different colour colours scheme, menus, footer…)

I already have the site working on WordPress, with a lot of IF to say “if on this page/section, use this css, use this footer etc.”

BUT, the 4 sites will have the following URL:
http://www.restaurant.com/restaurant1
http://www.restaurant.com/restaurant2
http://www.restaurant.com/restaurant3
http://www.restaurant.com/restaurant4

Instead of
http://www.restaurant1.com
http://www.restaurant2.com
http://www.restaurant3.com
http://www.restaurant4.com

Any idea? Would the Multi-Site version of WordPress help there?

PS.

I used this code for a Joomla site, would it work for a WordPress site?

All domains are redirecting to the same folder, and this is at the start of the header of the default theme.

Sure that’s basic. Just make 1 MultiSite install with the main site as the links.

Then make four more sites for each separate restaurant. They’ll look like resturant.com/resturant1 but don’t worry. You can use http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-mu-domain-mapping/ to map domains!

Great. Does it matter if I use the sub-domains or sub-directories installation?

Can all the subsites use the same theme or do they use different themes?

The domains would be redirected to the right folder only once everything is finished and signed off. Is possible to use the multisites on production? With temp URL/domains?

Thanks again for your answer. This will be my first multisites and I read a lot of pages where they only mentioned subdomains such as subdomain.restaurant.com and that was not what I was looking for.

No it doesn’t matter if you use subdomains or subdirectories (though subdirs are less work for many people).

The sites can all use the same theme, or different ones, as you see fit. The theme settings will be individual, remember.

The domains would be redirected to the right folder only once everything is finished and signed off. Is possible to use the multisites on production? With temp URL/domains?

Just set them up with the subfolder or subdomains for now, and map them when you’re ready 🙂 Workds fine.

Thanks, it worked up to now (didn’t do any domain mapping).
