default theme header/ photos issue

I am new to this and I uploaded some new pictures to use as a random collection in the header section.

I couldnt find a way to delete them…so I decided to use ftp and delete them manually.

Now, the pictures are gone…but the little circles are there..indicating that there used to be some pictures there.

How can I get rid of them totally? I need to know this, ‘cos they interfere with the “random show photos”. When I set random show..sometimes there are no pictures shown, because the system recognises that there should be a picture there (but there is only a little, silly circle there) and basically shows and empty header.
