Can we see the full error message please?
Hi esmi,
maybe I should have said I am using the theme suffusion
if I try to insert a picture on a page I get the message
“dsc01765.jpg” has failed to upload due to an error
The uploaded file could not be moved to /var/www/vhosts/mydomainname.com/httpdocs/wp-content/uploads.
I have only changed the name of the domain
Thanks
Clive
And this is why it is important to provide the full error message. It has nothing to with httpdocs in your file path. Try changing the permissions on the wp-content directory to 766. If you still have problems, try 767, 775 or 777. Once your uploads are working, change the permissions on wp-content back to 755 again and check that everything still works OK.

I have the permissions set to 777 but that still does not work.
The reason I think it is the httpdocs is that if I use the url method and use the http://mydomainname/wp-content/uploads/dsc01765.jpg
it works but I do not want contributors to have to use that method
WordPress will be picking that uploads path from the server – unless you have manually entered an uploads path in Settings -> Media. Have you?
I have tried changing it there but that did not work either
It is blank now, I meant that when it did not work before I tried changing it there to see if helped, as it did not I set it back to blank
Try contacting your hosts and ask them what your document root path is. Point out that WordPress is trying to upload images to your domain’s /wp-content/uploads using a full path that as generated from the server itself but is failing with the message “The uploaded file could not be moved to /var/www/vhosts/mydomainname.com/httpdocs/wp-content/uploads.”
Thanks esmi,
I will try and do that, I say try because it is a Spanish company who I do not have a lot of faith in ( my Spanish is limited and I use a non tech interpretor)
I will post what happens.
Thank you esmi.
I got your reply translated into spanish and they have fixed the problem for me.
Thanks again
Clive
