I’ve worked with WP for one year now and I’ve always thought that comments.php was always huge and clutered. Now that I’m updating my theme, I thought it would be a good time to ask.

What is the smallest possible comments.php. Like no styling. It just seems like it has more endif’s then it really needs.

Thank you to whoever can do this for me.

  • The endif’s aren’t for styling; they’re for semantics–the meaning–behind different comment situations.

In other words, sometimes a post will accept comments, sometimes it will accept comments only from registered users, sometimes it won’t accept any comments. Sometimes there are previous comments, sometimes there are none. The comments.php file has be able to deal with all those situations, so it needs the endif’s.

I think I found what I needed. In another tab, I found the Blank template. I think that’s what I need. Thanks filosofo.
