I’ve been trying to create a child theme and having trouble doing so on GoDaddy’s ftp manager. So, I decided to try it on FileZilla which I’ve been working with for 4 or 5 years. As I was downloading my info into FileZilla I saw an old “Page under construction” index file I had up before I came with WordPress. I tried to delete it. I deleted the wrong index! Now all I can bring up is the old “Page under construction” index file page. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Or will I have to start from scratch and reinstall WordPress? Or what?

  • Just download WP and upload the missing file again.

I’m not sure how to do that – the missing file is my website’s index file.

You need upload index.php file back to where your wp-config.php file is

    http://wordpress.org/download/

There you download the version of WP that you’ve got running. Find the file that you deleted and upload it to the server.

I have been working on my site online, so when I deleted that file, I deleted it from my host (GoDaddy). I didn’t have it backed up anywhere. That being said, how do I get that missing index file into WP when I download it? I know it’s pretty simple for you guys but it’s confusing as h–l to me. Duhhhhh.

just download the archived wp zip file from http://wordpress.org/download/. Unzip it, and you will find the index.php file in there. Upload and overwrite the file by FTP and that is that.

I did that (I think) but nothing changed. This is what comes up: http://tarotmeister.com/. What now?

See if you have other index file or default file other then the one you uploaded delete or rename the file

I have three index files on the right side of FileZilla. They are:
    index-extra.php
    index.html
    index.php
The first and last try to open Microsoft Digital Image but the files don’t come up.
The middle one brings up that Under construction page

it is index.html file rename the file to index-hold.html

on the right side, right? That’s what I did, nothing happened…

Do have any other website in your root other then wordpress
If you do not have any content like posts or pages setup I would reinstall

The only thing that was left over from my other program was that one under construction page and I don’t understand that because I thought I had deleted everything from GoDaddy before installing WP.

If you do not have any content like posts or pages setup I would reinstall

I had completely setup my whole website, around 60 pages. That’s why I really hoped I wouldn’t have to start from scratch again. I have all the necessary text but I used a lot of pictures for effect and that was very time consuming.

Then do not do any thing let us try this add this
    Indexdirectory index.php index.html
on first line of .htaccess file which is a hidden file you will need allow to see the file

I can’t find .htaccess. Before I take any chances…should I make the changes on the left side of FileZilla?
