I’ve installed Google XML Sitemaps on my WordPress 3.2.1 multisite network, but sitemaps just aren’t being created for subsites on my network. All I get is a 404 error if I try to go to subsite.mainsite.com/sitemap.xml (or sitemapindex.xml). A sitemap gets generated for the main site fine.

I’m using Quick Cache, anyone had any issues with these two plugins together?

Am I supposed to network activate the plugin? Or should I be activating it for each site manually?

Any help appreciated, I can’t work out whats going wrong.

Hi merkin, or should I call you Mr. Twinsen ;).

This is actually a common error, if you activate this plugin network-wide, chances are the permalinks for sub-sites are not flushed.

Do you have a lot of sub-sites? If you only have a few, you can follow Q6 in the FAQ section for a possible fix: http://betterwp.net/wordpress-plugins/google-xml-sitemaps/faq/.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks mate, worked a treat! I’m at the start of my multisite project so only a few sub-sites, thank god 🙂

Just a follow up on this, I noticed that my homepage isn’t anywhere in the sitemaps, is this correct?

The homepage will be added in 1.1.5, which is expected to be released tomorrow :-).

Me again!! I noticed that my users have the BWP GXS options in their wp-admin for their sub-domain sites. Is there anyway I can hide it from them?

    Hi merkin51,

Those options are blog-based option, and are very safe and restrictive, is there any specific reason why you don’t want your users to have them?

My users are teachers, many of them not very IT literate, so I’m trying to make my system as easy and user-friendly as possible! I’m also worried about their reactions to the donation bit in your plugin, because a lot of my users pay to use my system already, and they can be a very cynical lot. Really, there’s just no need for me to give them BWP GXS options, but I guess if they don’t know what it’s all about then they won’t touch it so no massive problem, but it might be a cool feature for in an update to give Super Admins the option to hide this from users?

I agree, I will consider this for future releases (probably not the next one, though).
