Posts in DB but no joy on site

I’m working with a client who inherited a website that used to be a publishing company. The previous owner either deleted something or did something to the site but now the posts don’t show up. I can see them in the DB but nothing shows up on the site. The menus are also gone from the site.

I know this is blue sky but any general thoughts as to why the posts won’t show? I don’t know enough about how WP works to figure it out. I’ve replaced the theme, disabled the plugins and did a number of things I saw in these forums but no luck.

Thoughts?
