Outdated Servers… Still possible to install WP ?
-
Hello there, I hope someone can offer some input on this one (hopefully someone has been in a similar situation…).
So. I’m building a site for a client. Client has prior agreement as to where to host the site. Upon contacting their IT guy regarding wp support on their servers this is the reply i got:
The current versions of our web server are as follows:
OS: AIX 4.3
Php: 4.3.8
Apache: 1.3.31
Mysql: 3.23.46Unfortunately, as I have observed from the wordpress website, our web server does not meet the minimum requirements for running even the previous version of wordpress 3.1 as it requires a minimum of Php: 4.3 and Mysql: 4.1.2. Despite that, I’m sending the full details of the hosting process in case you find a way to make things work.
As for freedom on managing the server from a user, there is not such possibility. A user can only manage what is under his personal directory and the database.
If the website your are planning to use changes files only under the generic account directory, you will be able to proceed/administrate as you wish, but if the installation needs to change other configuration files or add files under other directories, you will not be able to continue with the installation. What would you suggest to do ? Scrap WP for this one ?
Thanks!
