the difference between feed and atom feed is

I am sorry if this question is answered before but after I searched the web I could not find any single answer.

Can you please tell me what the difference between a feed and an atom feed is? After my wordpress installation, I found out that my website has two feeds installed on http://myblog.com/feed and http://myblog.com/feed/atom.
