I went to access my site this morning by going to: http://www.winslowarizona.org/wp-admin

Instead of getting my usual admin signon box I got this error:

The requested URL /login was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
    Apache/2.2.19 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.19 OpenSSL/0.9.8e-fips-rhel5 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 Server at winslowarizona.org Port 80

and I noticed the URL changed to:

    http://winslowarizona.org/login?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.winslowarizona.org%2Fwp-admin%2F&reauth=1

However, I have a sign-on widget on the home page that allows me to sign in and get to the dashboard ok. When I access the dashboard that way the url in my browser reads:

    http://winslowarizona.org/wp-admin/

I reinstalled WP but that didn’t fix the problem. I also restored the database from a backup from last week where everything worked fine but that didn’t fix the problem either.

I did view the other solutions listed but none seemed to address this issue in particular.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks in advance.

Thanks esmi. This does allow me to get to the login screen and dashboard. However, when logging out I get a similar error:

    Not Found

The requested URL /login was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
    Apache/2.2.19 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.19 OpenSSL/0.9.8e-fips-rhel5 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 Server at winslowarizona.org Port 80

I’ve noticed that a similar post regarding the same issue has suddenly come alive after remaining dormant for a couple of months:

Looks like this problem is not just limited to me (thank goodness… now I don’t feel so alone)… LOL

Anyway, thanks again for your help and if anyone else has a solution that fixes both sign in and sign out I’d love to hear it.

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress.

I’ve done all of the steps outlined above. Unfortunately the problem seems to be cascading. Now I get 404 errors for every page except the home. All pages are still there… just can’t get to them.

Update: This issue appears to be resolved now. I changed permalinks back to default and this fixed it. Sorry if I wasted anyone’s time.

The reason permalinks are not working correctly is because you have mod_frontpage installed >>> See this WP Codex >>> http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks#Permalinks.2C_.htaccess.2C_and_MS_Frontpage
