Permalinks not working

When writing a post the permalink is excluding the file “blog” an example is (http://wsttx.com/?p=44) goes to my home page, if you add the file “blog” in the url (http://wsttx.com/blog/?p=44) it’s there. It seems I did something wrong during installation. I re-installed WP, very carefully and am still having this problem. The posts aren’t being stored in the right place. I hope I’m explaining myself, as I’m new to WP and am still trying to figure this out (as if that’s not obvious)
