Link Images on Home Page to Pages in Site

I’m working on a site that will have a home page that includes an area of large images that each link to a page or post within the site.

I’d like to implement this on the admin side in a way that it can be easily maintained. So if I’m asked to change an image or change what page the image is linking to I can do that easily.

I was thinking of using custom fields and custom post types.

I’d greatly appreciate any other ideas before I head down that path.
