• The administrator e-mail address is in the correct place in “settings” and there is no typo, the address is correct. However, when a new user registers, I do not receive an e-mail to that address. Anyone can register but I need to know when that happens. Have scoured the topics in here and cannot find an answer; I recall seeing a note about a plugin that may help, even though this should be an automatic function already, but I cannot re-locate that information. Thank you for any guidance.

Thank you, Esmi, but that is not the problem. The new user who self-registers chooses his or her own password right there.

The problem is that the Admin (me) is not receiving e-mail to tell me that someone new has just registered.

I’m aware of that. Please see the page at the link I posted above.

OK, the problem is that I don’t speak programming language and, in looking for words I recognize I see the following:

I am using a hosting service, not my own box.
My admin address is a valid address (although granted lots of people hate AOL, but it’s still a valid address).

All I can tell as a novice is that I am doing nothing wrong, changing nothing in the system, and it’s not doing what it is supposed to do. This is as frustrating to someone who does speak the language, I’m sure, as it is to me, not able to do all that coding.

As a plugin-based alternative, you could try Configure SMTP. It cnfigures SMTP mailing in WordPress, including support for sending e-mail via SSL/TLS (such as GMail).”
