popup comments when using newpage tage

I’m using the < ! – – more – – > and < ! – – newpage – – > tags and I’ve uncommented the comment popup line in index.php. However, while the comment button opens a popup on the index (where the teaser is) it does not do so on the pages generated when the user clicks “more…”. Instead, on all subsequent pages, it defaults to having the comments and comment box at the bottom of the page. This destroys my layout. How can I have a consistant popup comment box available from each page of a post instead of the ghastly inpage comment area? Thanks.
