• I would like to use an installation of wordpress as a community calendar. I’d like to post blog entries for events that haven’t happened yet, and post date them, so that users can click on the calendar sidebar or search the categories for events that will be coming up in the future. Does this sound even remotely doable?

  • I understand what you want but as far as I know there is no way to do this with WP unless there is some type of plugin to achieve this.

The quickest thing I could think of, though it won’t be exactly as you would prefer is to just make categories for the dates such as: April 2006, September 2007 etc and then the people using your blog can just pick that category based on the month or week they are interested in. Under those categories you can post your events.

Again I know this isn’t quite what you wanted but it’s my “poorman’s solution”.

    Good luck.

In WP 2.0, you can edit the Timestamp of the entry in the Write Post page.
However, I am still a little new to all of this. When I tried posting with a Timestamp later than the current time, it only appeared after we had reached that time.
I am guessing that there is a part of the code that does something like
show all post WITH a Timestamp <=NOW.
If it were possible to have the “post showing” query show everything, you could simply set up the calendar and it would work.

I hope that this is clear enough, please don’t hesitate to ask if you need more info.
