Product catalog with advanced filtering options

Hey,
I’m looking for a plugin (existing one or I’ll need tips on how to develop one myself) that can manage a product catalog. Each product can have several photos and has custom attributes (If its cars, each car will have its own make, model, year, color etc.). I need an option to search in the product catalog with the selection of attributes (show only cars from this make and year, or from this color).
Is there a change i can use an existing plugin (with or without code modifications) or am i looking at an implementation from scratch?
