This morning I downloaded WordPress and I have finally gotten around my php phobia and attempted to install on my server. Following the instructions step by step I finally got to the step where I am supposed to go to ‘wp-includes/user.php’ (final install step, I believe). However, I get an error message that says: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘.’ in /home/content/a/z/r/xxxxx/html/xxxxx.com/store/wp-includes/user.php on line 381

As I said I’m completely php-phobic so I don’t even know where to start to fix this.

  • If your host provides an auto-installer such as Fantastico it might be easier if you scrap the manual install and use that instead.

Hi, I’ve set up a database on my Fasthosts account, and configured the wp-config.php, uploaded and opened up the following link in Firefox: http://www.alisonbick.co.uk/blog/wp-admin/install.php

    and get the following error:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘.’ in /home/fhlinux203/a/alisonbick.co.uk/user/htdocs/blog/wp-includes/user.php on line 381

I can see other people have the same problem, but can’t see a solution?
