   I uploaded & installed wordpress, the database tables exist, I can log into admin fine, but when I try to see index.php, I still get the "Set Up your Blog First!" screen.

   What's missing????

   Check the permissions on wp-config.php - it should be in the same directory as index.php.

   The problem was that for some reason index.php had no owner (listed as zero). Why, I couldn't say. I re-uploaded it & it had the proper owner again. anyone know why the hey this would happen?
