I’m running WP 3.1.4 on a Centos 5.6 server that is administered using Plesk 10.2. The standard version of PHP on this server is 5.1.6.

When I logged on this morning, WP told me that WP 3.2 was available, but also that I couldn’t upgrade because I needed a newer version of PHP.

Plesk has support for separate php53 RPM packages, so I upgraded to those. WP still told me that I couldn’t upgrade as my PHP was too old – until I remembered to restart Apache.

Now, WP tells me that I can upgrade. But when I try to do so, it won’t accept the SFTP username and password. SFTP still works on the server and I have the username and password correct – I’ve tried them from the command line.

Any suggestions what could be going wrong here? Or where I could look to track down the problem?

    Thanks,

    Dave…

  • Are you able to update via an insecure FTP connection? I know it’s drastic, but a server reboot could also be helpful.

Ok. That’s weird. I could have sworn I was using SFTP because I’d turned off standard FTP on that server.

But, no, I’ve just managed to use it to upgrade successfully.

Thanks for suggesting that I tried the obvious 🙂

    Cheers,
