    tyrrin,

Automated creation of recurring events is on my list of features to add, however, due to the significant effort involved, is not likely to be delivered anytime soon.

    Eran

I would like to add a request to having a recurring event as well. Something that will handle a once per month event (LUG meeting) that will occur in perpetuity. As well it should handle time limited recurring events such as summer scheduled events that would end after 2 – 3 months.

Also it would be excellent to have an easy way to copy an event so I can create one instance then copy it. Say for a two week long event that is only on Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week. Yeah, I can currently create six events, but a copy/paste would be much faster.

Thanks for a great plugin. I look forward to the updated versions with these new features.

FYI, the earliest I expect to introduce recurring event functionality into the plugin is at least several months.

    Eran

I understand about recurring events being a while away. I just wanted to say “me too”. πŸ™‚

In the meantime, how about being able to copy an event with something like [Ctrl]+click and drag? Or a [Copy] button on an existing event that pops up a mini calendar to copy an event to another day? Would one of those be onerous to code? If I had a clue how to do this myself I would do it an submit a patch to you. Unfortunately my coding skills are not up to that. If this can already be done, I have not found the magic word yet.

    eracc,

Given enough time anything’s possible – I’d have to look into it further before giving an estimate or committing to this feature.

    Eran

I would be willing to pay a fair price for the ability to have recurring event control with this plugin.

If you don’t have any plans to make this option a reality could you please recommend a calendar plugin that is just as good as this one but does offer recurring event control?

    Thank you.

As indicated above I have plans to add an automated recurring option,
at this point I just can’t estimate how long it will take. It is a very complicated feature to code and I don’t wish to reinvent the wheel, so it takes times researching available algorithms to produce a smart solution.

    Eran

Eran, I figured you would say that based on your recent posts.

Is there any kind of work-around or short-term solution that you can offer…I love the calendar, it is perfect in every way, save for the recurring option, as already noted.

My delima is that I have multiple events that occur every Saturday, all year round. It is very very very tedious and time consuming to enter these same events over and over again. Therefore, I don’t enter them in and my readers suffer from lack of knowledge and I don’t want to use another calendar option because they all suck, so you have your users over a barrel.

I don’t want to come off as pushy but you have a great plugin here that could be the best WordPress plugin ever, if it had the recurring option. Your plugin is like a fine sports car that is missing one wheel.

I would even consider paying you directly for your time to make this happen sooner.

Please reconsider a quicker time frame for making this option a reality, you will have many happy users.

@nelsondbeverly27, I suspect Eran does not do WordPress plugins for a living and so his time is limited. Even if this were Eran’s full time source of income, paying to “speed things up” will not necessarily have us end up with a good solution in the near term. I’ve been in the computer consulting business long enough, over 20 years, to have seen poorly implemented code in a paid rush job several times. I would rather have a good solution in the long run than a poorly implemented feature in the near term.

That said, maybe Eran can figure out a copy / paste for copying an event in the short term. It seems that would be simpler to code than a full bore recurring event algorithm. But as I know my coding skills are not up to that, what do I know about how difficult that would be anyway? πŸ™‚

As eracc indicated this is not how I make my living, indeed this is my first and only WordPress plugin. Based on the research I’ve been able to complete thus far, I don’t expect to introduce recurring event functionality soon, the complexity and performance implications if done incorrectly (rushed) could render the calendar unusable.

I’m sorry you feel I “have you over a barrel” that was certainly not my motivation in the many hours spent creating and supporting this plugin.

    Eran

p.s. I have been investigating copy functionality (I listened to you the first time you suggested it eracc) and it may be available as early as the next release or the one following.

A new beta has been released for those interested in testing and confirming that it works see this post for details.

Crap… just installed, got it working, learned the interface… and now find out that recurring doesn’t work. [crap]

Potential is high. Keep up the work! Be glad to donate when recurring is ready!

Plugin version 0.9.9.1 is now available for download.
Some recurring event functionality will be available in the following release.

running version 0.9.9.2 is there recurring support on this version? I can’t seem to figure it out.

Recurring support is not available until the next version, beta coming soon.
