Support » Plugins » Is memory cache needed with Amazon S3 and CloudFlare?

  • I recently reset my W3 Total Cache settings, starting from scratch, and configured Amazon S3 as a CDN and an CloudFlare as an additional cache and DNS provider. I wonder if I’ll get any real benefit from using a local memory cache on a VPS from my host.

I only have a personal site — nothing that gets a large amount of traffic — but I do want to make the site reasonably fast.

Will the CDN and CloudFlare provide most of the benefit I’d get with memory cache on a VPS? I’d rather not spend the money on VPS if CloudFlare and S3 can cover most of what I need.

  • An opcode cache and using it for some of the caching types is very beneficial especially for highly dynamic sites. it’s important to realize that there are several different optimizations possible and pertinent.
