• I just switched my template to Desk Mess Mirrored version 1.8.6.1
which I love for many reasons, except one.

The ‘leave a comment’ is on a cute little sticky note at the top of each post. But for the life of me I couldn’t find it because I was expecting to see the comment link at the bottom or top of the post like most themes.

What I’d like to do is add a short note to each post about where to find it, because no one has left a comment since I changed themes so I know it’s not just me.

I need help with editing the post template. This is not something I have any experience with so please keep this in mind when explaining.

    Thanks in advance!

  • can you give us a link to your site so we can see what you mean? 🙂

    That would help wouldn’t it?

I ran a post asking readers to leave a comment to test it out. I got some positive responses, but I also received this direct email from one reader.

Rahma, I tried and I got a weird message that said “Fatal Error”
I don’t understand computerese so I am copying it for you.

Fatal error: Call to a member function add() on a non-object in /home5/rahmakra/public_html/wp-content/plugins/feedblitz-membermail/feedblitz_membermail.php on line 163

    Thanks for looking into this.

after taking a look at it i really wouldn’t worry about it. not many people will want to leave a comment after just reading the post summary on the home page so they’ll click the link to read more of the post and then at the bottom of the full post there’s a comment submission form that they can use.

the little sticky note thing is basically there as a means to reach the comment submission form but mainly to indicate that comments can be left and x amount have been left already.

    🙂

Just a quick note: if you have a question or issue directly related to a specific Theme, be sure to post the question through the link on the Theme’s Extend listing, which for Desk Mess Mirrored is here.

(See here for the reasons why.)

I went ahead and tagged the topic with desk-mess-mirrored.

Cais (the developer) is pretty responsive, so as long as he knows about the topic, he’s pretty likely to respond and help you out!

I’ll head over there now. Thanks!

@rahmama – Sorry for the delays, I will add a note to my TO-DO list to review possible solutions to this issue.

@theotherleboski – Thanks for the comments.

@chip – Thanks for tagging this, it may have been much longer before I found it otherwise.

PS: The error message was generated by a plugin, it is most likely not Theme related.

Thanks Edward, I get the fatal error message when replying to comments, then find that the comment posted, but I have to refresh the page to discover that. I realize from your comment that this might not be a Theme issue, so maybe you could point in the right direction how to solve this. I’m not getting comments as much and I believe this would be discouraging to people trying to leave comments.

Another thing (while I have your attention 🙂 there’s an ugly white box plastered on the bottom of the post when viewing my blog in IE8, but not IE9. Should I post this issue on a separate thread somewhere?

Thanks for checking into this. I do love Desk Mess. It looks so much like my real desk, it’s scary.

@rahma – Unfortunately I do not generally test for any browser prior to the most current (especially in the case of IE) but from what I am seeing the “white box” may be another plugin that is possibly conflicting … WP_FB_Like_Button. Have you tried looking at the site in IE8 with that plugin deactivated? Also, you appear to be using another plugin that does basically the same thing, generally you only need one.

As to the issue with the other plugin, I would suggest reporting that issue to the plugin author; and, if you find the above “white box” issue resolves when deactivating the “like” plugin you should also let that plugin author know.

I would be more than happy to work with them if there is a specific Theme/plugin conflict to resolve, please feel free to pass that along if you do find the plugins are the root cause.

… and thanks for the compliments, it seems Desk Mess Mirrored reminds a lot of people of their desktops. 🙂
