ooo, that'd be kind of nice....like subscribe2, but with a weekly digest thing...
Hey, you got a cute blog courtney ;)
Thank you! :) I like yours too! ;)
Thanks! I'm still waiting for an answer though, hope someone can help me (us) !
I'd also like some sort of weekly newsletter solution. I'm running three different newsletters through Yahoo Groups, and I sure would like to move them all over to my site somehow.
What about this one http://www.semiologic.com/software/newsletter-manager/ but it isn't free.
I just don't think I'm willing to plunk down $300 for a package of stuff I don't really need, just to get one plugin that may or may not be something I can use. This plugin talks about sending one newsletter---but I have at least three different newsletters running right now, with three different groups of subscribers. One of them has over 3000 subscribers, which seems to be a size that many full-featured PHP newsletter scripts can't handle.
actually, I distribute it as a separate component to customers upon request. the newsletter plugin is not in the pro package because many a user has no idea of how to set up a proper mailing list.
I'm working on a new version, btw. it will let you manage multiple newsletters, and it will feature semi-automated posting. expect something somewhere next month.
as for sending an email to 3,000 subscribers using php, you rightly suggest that it's completely nuts. many a server will time out the script before it is done spewing the emails, not to mention memory limits. moreover, more and more ISPs are either blocking email sent via apache/php entirely or marking it automatically as spam.
My subscribe2 plugin has been updated to provide daily digests (assuming you're using WordPress 2.01 and my WP-Cron plugin), so that might be an option for some.
My cat2email plugin was written to connect WordPress to a dedicated mailing list application, like GNU Mailman: new posts to the blog are sent as email messages to the mailing list.
Hi, Ive made a newsletter myself http://www.red-star.nl/weblog/ and click on newsletter.
It seems that more people would like to have a newsletter. May be we should make a spec for it, and hope some super plugin guys outhere are helping us...
Sending a newsletter every x weeks...
just a start:
Header - the same picture as the blog, but smaller
Opening - Free introduction text
Headlines - selected from the posts

Something like this? ;)
@Red Star
Yes, somthing like that, but also a plugin..or is it in de download.
Why using 'rar' format. Which I do not have...ZIP??
I send my newsletters via email. The whole subscribe2 thing doesn't work for me, because I write the newsletter as a separate entity, including not only links to new items on the site, but off-site links as well.
I'd basically like to see something incorporated into wordpress which acts like the many free newsletter services, where by any visitors of my site can simply enter their email into a simple form and get their address added to a mailing list, which i can then send out mass messages out to. i'd like this to be seperate from the profiles/user features of the website.
I'M using the WordPress Email Notification Plugin v2.3.1 and everything works fine. but not straight away :-) .. I spent some time tweaking and even now the emails are sent some 3 hours later [and dont ask me why :-)] but it's easy to use and working :-)
@ johan,
I dont have Zip
to the rest,
Im bussy with a plugin, but also have to finish school this summer, so just wait a little more
Hey good job red star!
johankosters to open rar file, you can use winrar, which has a trial version available here: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
oke, I started today to creat a plugin. You can start the countdown, only I dont know when its final.
Do you al want a newsletter send from the database?
There wil come a form to submit , and a form for unsubmit.
Are there more wishes?
Tony Wright: subscribe2 from http://www.skippy.net/blog/plugins does exactly what you requested above....
I just started playing with Mailing List plugin and I think it'll do what you're asking.
I think you'd like to send out an email (a newsletter, to a mailing list (group)) when you want to, not only when something is updated. Although this plugin seems to do that, too. Again, I just installed it and haven't had time to test it, but it looks good so far.
If your mailing list is getting too huge (thousands), I've always liked PHP List and Dada Mail.
One thing I like about Dada Mail is that it can very easily "send a web page." So you can, for example, have a category page (e.g. News) and show the last 5 entries. When you have a new five entries, you can send your mail and it'll be that exact page (with your five entries) and the email will look like your website, in fact, it IS your website. Of course, recipients needs HTML email programs etc. That said, I use PHP List more as I find it more robust and it does "First Name" and "Last Name" and is more of a database. OK, now I'm venturing into the "more than you wanted to know" range.
Please post your findings here! Thanks,
- Bradley
Is there a feature list for subscribe2? Rather than reading through two pages of tweaks, I was trying to find what the original premise of the plug in was. Does it work more like an RSS where it just notifies an e-mail address when there is something new on the site? Does it have the abilities to send out other e-mails at any time?
Don't know if this is the best place to post the query, but I figured I would give it a shot.
likoma, good looking out on that plugin. Seems pretty nice so far. If it only had some more features.
I agree with sdenike, more features would be great.
I actualy have created a massmailer plugin for WordPress for work. But i didnt wish to release it as i didnt want people to use it for spamming people :S

The above links to some screenshots of it
Phunky - That customized massmailer plugin looks awesome! :) Release the sucker!

Both. It e-mails out all new posts to the list and provides you a page to manually send out e-mails.
I'm currently using it on a site I run and it's working great with over 1200 subscribers. :)
Wow, PhunkyMailer looks neat. If you could release this plugin it would be really helpful for managing a mailing list on one of my sites (not spam).
Although from the screenshots I could not determine if there was an "unsubscribe" option for the recipients? Otherwise, looks good.
@ acanay:
The reason for your delay in the email being sent, is due to a difference in server time and blog time.
The plugin waits until your server reaches the time your blog was posted before it sends the email. This is usally a problem if your server is in a different timezone, but you can alter your php files to fix this quite easily. Send me an email from my site, if you want help with it.
