• All those apocryphal stories? they’re true.

Here’s my own tale of woe:

Last week I checked with their support people regarding a mailing-list (5,000 members) we send to weekly. Asked them how many emails per hour we could send. they responded that they’d upped our limit to 10,000 emails per day, no set hourly limit.

    wow, fantastic, right?

    tonight started the mailing…

a short time later an automated email arrived, saying we’d exceeded 200 emails in a 60 minute period, therefore the email account was disabled.

    WTF?

I’ve no way to stop the send job.

so can only assume that the first 200 folks got the email, the others did not.

and, of course, no way to contact Dreamhost. no chat. and all support issues receive the standard reply “we try to respond within 24 hours”, regardless of severity.

In short, stay away, dear reader. I’ve seen others complain about their random actions, and now I’ve joined those ranks, whimpering on the sidelines, licking our DH wounds.

H.P.Lovecraft would be at a loss for words if tasked to describe my rather dark mood at this moment.

I’m glad so many good people here on WP’s forums have offered their alternative hosting suggestions. Thanks.

    — THE END
