Support » Fixing WordPress » How is this possible?

  • Hello,

I am using wordpress 1.5.2 and I have it set so you have to register before posting comments. Today I recieved this in the mail:

A new comment on the post #11 “Present and Future gigs!” is waiting for your approval

    Author : Blog ringtones (IP: 200.66.191.1 , sesiones.prodigy.net.mx)
    E-mail :
    URI : http://telringtones.com
    Whois : http://ws.arin.net/cgi-bin/whois.pl?queryinput=200.66.191.1
    Comment:
I dont know, what it is.

There is no Blog ringtones user in my database, how could this person post a commment. I am glad that it is set so the first post of any user must be approved by me, but I am unsure how this could happen. Have I been hacked? Usually, first I get a user registration email, then after, I get an email to approve comments from the user.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Kind Regards,
    Don “a little nervous” Foley

  • It’s probably a pingback/trackback, not a comment.

I got the same thing today, on a password protected post! It’s got to be something other than a pingback/trackback.

But they’re being held for approval, right? So they aren’t appearing unless you approve them….

After looking at my email history I did noticed that TrackBack and Comment approval emails from WP look the same. They both say New comment on your post #n. However usually trackbacks have the […] automatically put in, so it confused me. So this is a new kind of spam? False Trackbacks, I checked there site, they did not post my post on thier site.

Oh well, I feel better anyway.
