Under Construction html while working on the background

    Hi,
    I’m new to WordPress. This is my first attempt. I have used Elxis CMS a lot in the past, but from what I see it’s totally different.

    OK,
    I have installed WordPress and works fine. The only thing is that I want a simple .html page to display an Under Construction message while I work on the background.
    Now the site displays the index.php and not my index.html

    How can I fix this?
    Need to do a lot of reading to create a new theme for a new site I have to create.
