After Multisite move subsites not working beyond home pages
-
I just moved my WP Multsite network from localhost to shared host. My homepages load fine on all subsites but that’s it, all other pages and links take you to the main site homepage. Where do I fix this? Help!

Can you give a link to a subsite?
If you can get into yourdomain.com/subsite/wp-admin try the re-saving permalink trick there as well 😉
Did that … Still same problem. Menus, pages, not connecting to rest of site. Is it my database needs checking? Do I go back in there? or is WP not finding where to get all the links?
ALL the links on your main page go to mintdesign.us.com/
I would switch to the default twentyTen theme and see if suddenly they work
Tried that too. Same thing on all subsites – only the first page works on the subsites and the links are still directing to the main site home page.
I think the problem is the database changes that I made when I moved the site. I replaced localhost with mintdesign.us.com in my db. But I’m seeing alot of instances in my db dump of localhost/wordpress/tinasher and localhost/wordpress/mintdesign. Since I ftp’d my files to the root directory on my shared host, was i supposed to get rid of all instances of /wordpress/ in my db? In my config I switched the PATH define to ‘/’ from ‘/wordpress/’. I really don’t think I understand how the subsites path work and how they are supposed to look in the db…. Any recommendations on what I do from here?
Wait … mintdesign.us.com is your MANI site and http://www.tinasher.com is a SUB site? What plugin are you using to domain map?
Yes. That’s correct. And http://www.sherstudios.net is another SUB site. I used the WordPress MU Domain Mapping Plugin. First, I assigned the SUB site domains to the mint design hosting package in Network Solutions. It seemed mapped already actually. But then I followed the directions from fronterahouse.com.
My site is down temporarily as I am putting in a test db that I swapped out more “localhost” references. But do you think It may be the way I mapped the sites?
Yes, it’s how you mapped the sites on the server side.
Mint Design is my main site. So for example does:
http://localhost/wordpress/mintdesign/2011/05/20/
http://localhost/wordpress/tinasher/2011/05/20/
http://localhost/wordpress/sherstudios/2011/05/20/become
http://mintdesign.us.com/2011/05/20/
http://tinasher.com/2011/05/20/
http://sherstudios.net/2011/05/20/or
http://mintdesign.us.com/mintdesign/2011/05/20/
http://mintdesign.us.com/tinasher/2011/05/20/
http://mintdesign.us.com/sherstudios/2011/05/20/?
No, they won’t have the folder name in it. It’s how you mapped the domains on the server – not in wordpress.
However you told your webhost account to direct the mapped domain to the folder where wordpress is installed. THAT is the issue.
Not completely following you.
Do I leave the instances of localhost/wordpress/in my db? or do I replace with a or b examples above?
How should I tell my webhost account to direct the mapped domains? They are pointing to the root, htdocs.
Pointing how? Parked? Mirrored? serveralias?
They need to be a serveralias. Not masking or anything else.
Also, you should have replaced the /localhost/wordress/ in the * entire* database with whatever domain is the MAIN domain on the live site.
THEN map them. Make sure the subsites work on the live server before you map them.
I don’t know what parked or mirrored means. The domains all point to the same IP address and root folder associated with the hosting package at Network Solutions. I do not have a folder named “wordpress” anymore. When I view the A records in the DNS manager they are all the same.
When you say “They need to be a serveralias” what do you mean?
The server alias in my MySQL Database Details? The IP address in there is different. Is that what you mean? Should I use the database IP address in my Network Admin when I begin the mapping?
(My site is down because I am doing the localhost/wordpress swap in my sql dump file. Like in these examples, with local/host/wordpress/ replaced by my main site:
http://mintdesign.us.com/mintdesign/2011/05/20/
http://mintdesign.us.com/tinasher/2011/05/20/
http://mintdesign.us.com/sherstudios/2011/05/20/)Ask your host.
Ask them what? My questions were to your reference to server alias in regards to domain mapping. 1)Is the database server alias what you are referring to and 2)is that what wordpress needs in Network Admin?
it’s not in the database and it is not in WorPRess.
It’s server side. This part:
The domains all point to the same IP address and root folder associated with the hosting package at Network Solutions.
however you pointed them, they technically have to be a server alias. I don’t know what NS calls it in their admin area because I have never used their hosting. THat is why I’m suggesting you ask them – because they will know.
