   I'm trying to activate akismet, but I cannot find my WP API key. I looked on "My Account" page, but there is no 12-digit code anywhere.

   Is there another way to get this code?

   Did you sign up for a WordPress.com blog? If so the API Key is located under the "User" tab.

   ...on your wordpress.com account. (Sorry, but it seems not mentioning this detail has confused some folk before.)

   I'm hosting my blog (s) on my another web host, so I didn't sign up.

   Can I do something else?

   Sign up just for the API key.

   As for the wp.com blog, you could use it as a link log, or as a place to have a pop at people, or even something else :)

   I have an API now, but the akismet plugin on my blog that is hosted on another host will not accept the API key.

   Sorry. I also have the same problem. i've tryed tosignin on wordpress.com but i'm alwaysredirected to this page: http://wordpress.com/signup/?new=synthview but I DON?T want to have another blog. just to use the one i've installed on http://www.synthview.com/blog
   I really don't know what to do :(

   Too bad.

   Nobody says you have to use that wordpress.com blog or anything. It's just an account, think of it like that.

    ... and actually, if you pay attention on the WP.com registration page, there's an option to just get the key without getting a wp.com blog...
