• I am wondering what I need to do next to use the Semiologic Google Analytics plugin, after activating it. I went to google analytics and it looks like it is on an invite only basis? https://www.google.com/analytics/home/?et=reset&hl=en-US

I want a quick way to see what search phrases in which SE’s, my latest visitors are coming from.

Was also wanting an opinion on this, if Google Analytics provides this, also at what cost? (having GG know everything about your site).

Statcounter.com works great for the latest 100 visitors, but thats a small number, and it adds a javascript to the loading time.

  • Yes, Google Analytics is by invitation only.
It is free to use for up to 5 million hits per month if you’re not an AdWords user, or free to use regardless of hits if you are an AdWords user.

What does the plugin do, exactly? All I did once I got my invite was to put the proper code in my header.php. Done and done.

That said, I don’t find Google Analytics particularly useful. The data might be interesting if I was trying to make money off my site, but for the hobbyist, it’s kinda pointless.

Oh, and yes, Google Analytics also requires a javascript being added to the loading time. No way around that.
