• Hi All
I have placed a NextGen Gallery on a page on my site and nothing that I do can make the thumbnails appear.

    http://www.intergrafix.co.uk/sxp/?page_id=30

I have tried all the following:

    Rebuilt the thumbnails
    re-uploaded the pictures
checked the existence of the thumbnails in an FTP client
Tried across a multitude of PC, browser and platform combinations
Fiddled about endlessly with the gallery settings
    Asked my son (last resort)

The theme is an Artisteer generated one, but the plug-in checks it out as OK

I don’t know what else to look at, perhaps someone here has had the same problem and has resolved it.

    Thanks

Forgot to mention that the thumbs don’t show up in admin either.

I ran into this same problem a few days ago. I finally got a message stating my memory was full. I’m not sure if there is a way to change the memory allotment, but I think I remember reading something in one of the forums.

All I did was re-size all of my photos. Unfortunately, I had to delete my image file in the NextGen gallery, resize and re-upload all of the images. Lucky for me I’m new to all of this and didn’t have very many photos.

Good luck to you. I hope this helps.

Well, since I had this problem, I installed a plugin and everything went pearshaped!, so I have to start again anyway. Luckily, I keep all the assets safe including the now resized pictures for the gallery, so it won’t take me long to reinstate the site. I’ll follow up with what happens, fingers crossed!

I got the same problem as well.

Dillydog, did you solve this? Or we have to wait for the creator to give us the solution?

    Thanks!
    Eric.

    Hi Eric

No, I haven’t solved this yet, there has just been an update to NextGen, but it hasn’t made any difference to this problem. I’ve tried making the thumbs really small in case it was a memory problem, nothing seems to fix it. Lets hope Alex sees this thread and supplies a solution.

    Just a quick update.

I tried going back to version 1.7.4 to see if it was something in the 1.8 versions, but no difference I’m afraid

    Hi Dillydog,

I found the solution! It’s because of the size of the image! If your image go beyond, 2000px, it wont’ show up! So, try to adjust the size lesser than 2000px and you will see it shows up again!

    Give it a try! 😉
    Eric.

    Hi Eric

I’ve already resized all my images to 800px X 600px in Photoshop, but I will have a look in that area.

    Thanks

Try to set the size in Option –> Thumbnails in your case.

No, that didn’t work. Also just tried starting over by uploading all the pictures again. Thumbnails are being generated, I can see then via FTP, they just don’t show up in WP. Starting to tear my hair out now!

Finally got to the bottom of this!

Not a specific NextGen problem, as the problem also occurred with images placed using the Media Gallery.

The problem was with file permissions. After changing permissions to 666 on the thumbnails and the thumbnail folder, everything suddenly burst into life!

The question is now why does WP create folders with insufficient permissions? Any thoughts anyone?

Where are the thumbnails supposed to be visible? I’m only seeing thumbnails in the list of images in the admin gallery page. I don’t know if I’m also supposed to see thumbnails someplace else.

    Hi RoamFree

The problem I had was thumbnails not showing up on either the admin area or on the gallery page where I had put a NGG. It was only the thumbnails not showing. If you clicked on the ‘broken image’ icon where the thumb was supposed to be, the picture would pop up like it’s supposed to. This was finally fixed by changing the permissions of the thumbnail folder and the thumbnails within to 666 in my FTP client.

I still haven’t got to the bottom of whether it is a problem with my hosting of with WP. I still have to find out because I don’t want this to happen every time I of my client adds mor pictures.

The page in question is here:
    http://www.intergrafix.co.uk/sxp/?page_id=30
As you can see, it all works now.

This solution you menton above didn’t work for me.

The Thumbnails don’t show up at all when they are upload. The only way I can get a thumbnail to work is by manually creating it for each image under manage galleries.

    Help!

I have done most of the above. I’m on a windows server so file permissions do not apply. I deleted the plug in and re-installed it. Still no thumbs. looked at the directory …/gallery/…/thumbs and there are no items. I saw the post about 2000k image size and cut mine in half to below 1000k, still not working. even tried it with images less then 300k and no good. I can’t even create it manually and get error div by zero errors.

    Can anyone shed some light?
