New Install Using Old Database

    I am trying to do a new install of WP, but want to use the database that is already being used for a WP site that is already live. I am going to use this new install for testing, (ie themes, etc.) but I must be doing something wrong as when I changed the prefix on the config file the site goes blank. Please tell me what I am doing wrong. I would appreciate it.

    I was going to do the install using the old database prefix, but was afraid it would wipe out what was already in the database. Maybe I am wrong?

    You are right. Something will go wrong.
    It would be much safer to separate the database of the live site from the testing site.

    So the best way to do it, is do a total new install then insert the old database inputs into the new one?

    Yes… at least that’s how I do it. Check this link if that’s how you want to do it.
