Menu links only load index.php

Greetings,

This is my first post. I am a beginner with WP and php. I recently installed WP 3.1.3 on my home server to help someone with creating a custom theme. I created added support for menus and created static pages and added them to the menu. All pages and menu links worked.

Then began working on the two loops in index.php. I have two loops that show 2 categories in 2 columns. Not knowing how to single posts out of the loops for special formatting (I just don’t understand) I used a get_post prior to one of my loops and set up the formatting.

Now somewhere during all this the menu decided it would not show any pages when clicked. The address bar matches the database id but it only shows index.php. I guess I am not sure how to set-up page.php to show page content. Sorry for the long post, and thank you for any help.
