Blogs not showing the same in different browsers (4 posts)

    Hello,

I have several blogs and just discovered that they do not show up the same when I move between firefox (FF) and internet explorer (IE).

    1. After much work, I was able to upload images and they sort of looked fine in FF (having trouble getting text to wrap). But when I viewed it via IE, html code shows up under the pictures.

    2. Adsense in the sidebar on in the FF view looks fine, but part of the side bar is missing in IE.

    3. Calendar and other sidebar info which is present in FF is not present in IE - and it shows the descriptive text from the theme instead.

    4. Using the contact me plug in in FF - shows up fine, but in IE it's all out of alignment.

My browser of choice is FF and I do all my work in FF. However, that it not true for everyone.

Why is this happening and what do I need to do to make my sites look the same between browsers?

    Thanks!

bcp - this is not a problem that's unique to WP, so you'll probably need to widen your search for help. Design for WP is done entirely with CSS, and sadly, IE and Mozilla based browsers (like Firefox) interpret CSS differently. It sucks - but it's the case. If you really want to ensure your site looks the same in both browsers, you'll basically need to take each problem separately and look for solutions. It's time consuming and very annoying (IMO), but it's necessary.

And that's without even considering other browsers like Safari or Opera. Good luck.

    bcp,

given what you have posted there is a very good chance that any edits you have made have also introduced validation errors.

Plug your sites into http://validator.w3.org/ and see what comes up .. you might be surprised.

Differences in display between browsers that arent limited to "mild things" are typically the result of bad code.

Well, I plugged my urls into the validator and YIKES! I'm not even sure what all this means.

I've not changed the templates (I don't really understand CSS or php and only know enough html to be dangerous). On one blog it seems that just my typing has produced errors.

And nothing comes up for the errors I get between browsers with the contact me plugin. Hmmm...

Thank - this is not going to be as easy as I thought.
