    Hi,

I am about to use one of the freelance programmer sites to commission someone to install and configure Wordpress on my website.

Is there anything I should look out for or ask for to a) pick the best qualified bidder or b)avoid obvious cowboys.

If you have a few minutes and can help, I'd appreciate the advice.

    Thanks

    Michael

How do you want to configure the website?

Well depending on how much work they're going to do...

If they are going to integrate into your current site design I wouldn't pay more than $500. If they're just going to install wordpress on a folder without any modifications I wouldn't pay more than $50 since this takes less than 5 minutes.

Yeah, more detail on exactly what you are asking them to do is definitly needed here.

If you need custom plugins/coding done, expect to pay a fair bit, if it's just a simple install, then $50 is probably too much.

I've done installs i've won on RAC for $15US, but I gave up on freelance websites as all too often the jobs fall to someone with the lowest price and just get re-advertised a week later asking for someone to do it properly!

i JUST had a project done on RAC -- I chose a low-to-mid range bidder with good feedback. He also had a page where I was able to see what he had accomplished previously.

He completed exactly what I wanted done in 2 days.

    There were higher bids.

In short, you do not always get dissapointed by the low bidder, sometimes things work out :)

    ------------

it does not take a UNIX sysadmin to install/configure WP or the plugins.
