I just started using WP 2.0. It seems to be a great program.
One thing - I've looked everywhere for it in admin - is how do I enable user posting or writing an article/essay.
I know there is some place to enable this....
Please help a stupid noob out.

Go into "Users." Then go into "authors and users."
Then go to the bottom. There is a spot to select roles for your users. You can set people as Authors or just subcribers. Or admin, if you really like them.
