telnap.com. they have a modest $25/year plan that i’ve got a few sites residing on. uses cpanel/fantastico.
i also have some folks over at dreamhost and bluehost, cheap for all of the bandwidth, but particularly dreamhost has come under a lot of fire recently.

You can definitely spend too much, but in the end, you get what you pay for.
For what it’s worth: avoid DreamHost at all costs.
@cartero, were you on a dedicated server? I can’t imagine any host in their right mind permitting this kind of server load on shared server space.
Personally, I’ve got three sites running WP on DH and although I don’t send out bulk email, I’ve been very happy with their plans and their pricing.
I also highly recommend Textdrive (http://textdrive.com), and have two WP sites running there with no problems. I was lucky enough to get in on one of their VC campaigns. Otherwise, they are somewhat pricey, but well worth it in terms of service, security and customer support. Textdrive supports open source projects and even donates 10% of your hosting fee to the open source project of your choice (e.g., TextPattern, WordPress). That’s a nice gesture, I believe.
Cool, and thanks. Good point on server load. Had been looking for place to move email load, this incident will speed that up.
The consistent DH complaint seems to be, and I’d concur, that with no phone support, and (as far as I’ve seen) never having real-time chat available, handling hot issues via email with a “we’ll try to reply within 24 hours” auto-responder just drives folks away aggravated. Nothing worse than knowing of a problem with no assurance a person is even on the case.
Perhaps I’ve overreacted a wee-bit, eh? Funny stuff, adrenaline.
