404 Error & Sitemap Questions
-
Two unrelated questions:
1. When I installed WP SEO I got the warning (suggestion?) to change my default permalink to /%postname%/ which I did.
I then proceeded to configure WP SEO to enable “Force rewrite titles” and used the %%title%% for posts and pages. The plugin dutifully creates nice looking permalinks. Only problem is that when I go to navigate I get a 404 on every page. I must have a wrong setting somewhere – what do I need to change?
2. I have the automatic XML Sitemap generation turned on. The sitemap is created in a subfolder under:
wp-content/uploads/wpseo
If I want to keep the spiders from crawling my WP installation with a disallow in robots.txt, won’t that hide the xml? Is there an option to change where WPSEO creates the sitemap files? In the alternative, if I have disallow crawling of my wp-content does the sitemap directive in robots.txt override the disallow for those files (i.e. does not allow crawling of wp-content EXCEPT FOR the sitemaps?
