• Is there a guide on how to style featured images correctly with the default Twenty Ten theme? I am having trouble getting the image to look right. Most of the time half the image is cut off.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • The Twenty Ten theme shouldn’t need amending to style featured images. The styling is already in there.

You are correct however the styling cuts off part of the picture to get the image to fit.

I am sure there is a proper way to edit or crop images so they display correctly.

Unless you provide a link to a page demonstrating the problem, no one will be able to offer much in the way of assistance.

If you look at the linked to image (took screen shot) you will see it is getting cut off. I thought the WP srript was suppose to auto resize the featured images?

Not for the header image in the Twenty Ten theme. You have to upload the correctly sized images in the first place.

Is there a tutorial you can recommend on this? I have Photoshop but unsure how to resize an image to the exact size of 940 x 198.

In Photoshop, in the tools pallet on the left there is a shapes option.

Choose rectangle, then in the menubar you will see new icons, I think it is a star to select to size.

Choose proportional and enter 940 and 198.

drag the proportional box to select the area to crop as a header (to activate you may need window > path > make selection :feather 0).

Then from the menu > image > crop.

Next Menu > Image > Resize choose pixels and enter 940 for the width.

Last step choose File > “Save for the web”, and save as png 24 or jpg medium.

    Thats it!

@digital Raindrops – I tried following your instructions but got stuck. Anyone else have a method they can share?

You can create a new blank document with the exact dimension you need.
(940 x 198). Drag and drop your image into the blank canvas.

Click file -> save for webs and device and follow the screen.

I dont know if you solved this. but you need to edit the functions.php

    TwentyTen resizes the image using

    define( 'HEADER_IMAGE_HEIGHT', apply_filters( 'twentyten_header_image_height', 198 ) );
