Support » Fixing WordPress » help! i'm trapped and can't export my site!

  • I took an internet business class and started a website. The site’s backbone was created for us, and they provide the hosting…which is the problem.

I’m trying to transfer my site entirely away from them, and they won’t provide the exporting of my data to a new hosting service.

Is there any way that I can export the material? I feel totally locked into their website, and it’s not even that impressive.

I simply have a lot of posts, some pictures, and it’s in the Twenty Ten format.

I’d like to keep the domain name and get the overpriced crappy hosting away from them.

    Any suggestions?

Keeping the domain name involves transferring it to a new registrar. It can be done. Just find the new one you want and they can help you.

    As for your posts etc.

You need to FTP everything down to your computer first. If you can’t do that, you can TRY to use the wordpress import/export tool. That will require you to have both sites up and running for a while, though.
