List Related Posts by Author from a Custom Post Type

I’ve searched high and low for a way to accomplish this, and none of what I’ve tried is working.

I have a custom post type called “Work” on a site with eight different authors. The “Work” post type is where users are to create posts showcasing their artwork, acting as a portfolio for each artist.

What I’d like to do, is on the single post pages for items from the “Work” post type, is have a section in the sidebar that will show all other posts from the same author of the “Work” post type.

So, If I’m viewing a “Work” post by Nicole, I want the sidebar to list all other “Work” items posted by nicole.

I’ve tried every plugin and technique googling can provide me, and none of them seemed to work. Some wouldn’t work with custom post types, and others would just pull everything from the “Work” post type onto my single post page.

The closest I got was with the “Better Related Posts” plugin but I couldn’t get the manual method of putting it in to recognize my custom “Artists” taxonomy.

Any ideas?
