I am trying to install the WordPress Gallery2 plugin. I had it mostly installed, but now I can’t log into my wordpress site anymore (oy!). I can get to the login screen, but as soon as I enter the correct username and password, I get a 500 error.

I read some about .htaccess and the mod_rewrite plugin causing these errors, and noticed that my wordpress directory (/blog) does not have any .htaccess file at all. While I do not know how to interpret this, I imagine it isn’t good… If I do need a new .htaccess file, can anyone give me a barebones version that will make my site work? Or are there other problems at work? Thanks.

  • If you’re desperate you can always access the files via ftp and delete the plugin. Then try logging in.

I installed the WPG2 plugin the other day with WP 2.0 and couldn’t get it to work either. I have everything up and running and can view the WPG2 options page via the WP panel, but if I click on any Gallery 2 tabs it gives me a 404 error.

So I figured out what the problem was (I’m just posting here in case someone else bumps into the same issue). It turns out that the gallery 2 plugin is extremely incompatible with a plugin that reformatted the dates of archived posts. I had to uninstall the entire gallery, then I was able to get back into the wordpress blog.

What was that plugin that caused the problem?
