lol with such a helpful community i can see why wordpress is so popular….
nah seriously tho..
can anyone lend a hand or do i say the hell with it and go back to html for lack of any form of help?
figure out how to link the forum onto the front page
Why not just a normal hyperlink? You can put it in a text widget on your sidebar.
get wordpress to play nice with the phpbb3
I am not sure how many people on the forum use this so you are shooting in the dark with this one.
Keep in mind this forum is “staffed” by volunters who range from those have been with wp since the beginning to ones who learn by doing (like me). WordPress sounds like a good program for what you want to do but you’ll need some books (about wp and css), lots of time and patience. Maybe html would be better if you don’t need the features of WordPress.
ok this is going to be a long drawn out post
You were right there. I had to read it twice to find the questions. BTW, your site looks very nice so far.
For posting here be brief but include all the facts, error message etc. Don’t post long lines of code. Use http://pastebin.com/ for that. And not everytime will you get an answer.
Your site looks nice…
a.collect articles from the web on the different species parrots and repost as articles in structured hierarchy so each species has its own article base
You can use the wp-robot plugin which auto grabs the articles information and post it in your site with permalinks to the rest of the posts…
b. figure out how to link the forum onto the front page (theming it to match site is going to be a fun bit)
Second you can link the forum just like hyperlinks as said above
n for phpbb3 i can’t say anything because both are different plattforms… one thing u can do is search out for any plugins or tweaks for phpbb3 which enables integration with WP…
Thanks
thanks for the reply kmessinger,
linking the forum i would like to find out how to do so the link looks uniform as the rest of the navigation bar. thats where i am getting stuck on that part.
i know there are plugins for phpbb but i have tried 3 and none of them seem to work properly so i had to ask if there is some little trick i am missing.
i have even gone so far as to install both bbpress and simplepress in order to try to get one to link and play nicely. no joy so far.
i know the forums are staffed by volunteers but one of the main reasons i decided to change over to it to begin with was because i read all over the place how wordbress has its own community that is always willing to help. figured i have half a chance if i have a bit of backing here and there.
already have the wp for dummies and 3 other books i have been reading through but it seems mine are not standard questions cause they arent covered in any of the books so far lol.
anyhow thank you for atleast taking the time to reply. wish me luck cause i am one of the stubborn ones that doesnt give up very easily
have a good one
wayne
thanks for that rock, i will have to have a look around for that robot plugin and see if that takes out one of my issues for me.
anyone have opinions of the easiest forum software to integrate with a wordpress site, i would prefer a traditional smf or phpbb layout rather than the bbpress one as it does not look like it will support the hierarchy i am looking for to break down the information i am going to host there.
linking the forum i would like to find out how to do so the link looks uniform as the rest of the navigation bar.
What is generating the art-menu? Create a new Page and put the code for the forum on that page or if that won’t work a hyperlink. Then you can add that page to the menu.
I use simple:press plugin for a forum in WP
It looks and acts like a forum, similar enough to SMF that I switched from SMF to it
thanks for that rev, i actually tried to load simple press yesterday,
latest version of wp and simple press, 1 and 1 server running php 5 and ending up with fatal error where the plugin wont load. kinda sucks for me lol.
digging around now trying to find a workaround to resolve that issue so i can atleast give it a shot
thanks for the input though
