[Plugin: WP Carousel] Carousel Category Order

    Hi All,

    Firstly (and most importantly this is a great plugin!) – I’m using version 0.53. From the backend, I have dragged the ‘Items’ block to my Carousel within the Carousel options page – this allows me to show posts from specific categories within my carousel.

    The carousel is currently featured on http://www.zitamenyhart.com/press

    The items block is configured to show the newest items first from the given category (Press Releases) but for some reason, the order is random.

    To give you an idea this is the the order in the Posts section of WordPress):

    Press Release 1 – Date: 2010/09/01
    Press Release 2 – Date: 2010/08/01
    Press Release 3 – Date: 2010/05/01
    Press Release 4 – Date: 2010/04/28
    Press Release 5 – Date: 2009/10/01
    Press Release 6 – Date: 2009/03/20
    Press Release 7 – Date: 2009/01/01
    Press Release 8 – Date: 2009/01/01

    However, WPCarousel displays them in this order:

    Press Release 2 – Date: 2010/08/01
    Press Release 1 – Date: 2010/09/01
    Press Release 8 – Date: 2009/01/01
    Press Release 7 – Date: 2009/01/01
    Press Release 6 – Date: 2009/03/20
    Press Release 5 – Date: 2009/10/01
    Press Release 3 – Date: 2010/05/01
    Press Release 4 – Date: 2010/04/28

    Can someone help me with this in case I’m doing something wrong.

    That is a known bug of WP Carousel 0.5.x: WP Carousel orders content by ID, not by date.

    This bug is fixed in WP Carousel 1.0 (Beta 1 and following versions), so if you need to use that feature, update to the Beta (I think the Beta is pretty stable).

    Hi sumolari,

    Thanks for your feedback. I’m not always that keen to be a crash test dummy for betas (I guess someone has to) but I took your advice (plus I was getting desperate) and downloaded the beta…

    Firstly, the fix is in place so that’s definitely good news.

    Secondly, there are some really cool improvements to the admin gui and the additional themes to really complete this plugin – I’m very impressed and happy to continue using this version.
