    Hi,
I have a multisite hosted on media temple’s dv server.
It works fine, however, the subdomain seems to be “locked into” the server’s ip path.
What I mean is, on Media temple, you can set any of your domains to be default ip address (usually I use this for testing). I have this particular website selected as the default ip.
Problem is, I cannot change it (the default ip to another domain )
When I do try to switch the default ip to another domain the “parent” site of the WP multisite continues to work, but the subdomain then goes “offline” and points to the server ip address.

This must be hard coded into wordpress somewhere I’m guessing? Can anyone point me to where I can fix this. Already phoned media temple and they didn’t know.

Thanks in advance, hopefully i’m being clear.

Wildcard subdomains are based in whatever IP address or vhost they are set for – usually the default of the hosting account.

change that, and yes, you’ll make them stop working.

No, this is not hardcoded into wordpress, this is how wildcard subdomains work, for any program that uses them.

Hi Andrea, Thanks for quick reply!
Now at least I can phone media temple and figure out how to configure that properly.
    If I understand you correctly,
beside the alias *.example.com then there is the box “A”, rather than the numeric ip I should put the domain name.

    Cheers
