• I was trying to mess around and tinker with some of the files in some of the php files that comes with some of these templates. But I must admit that some of the language that shows up is foreign to me.

Is there something within the docs or codex that will teach me the basics of PHP so that I can make the appropriate mods to the files without screwing myself over?

    thanks.

  • Depends what you want to do.

I’ve been using WP for two years now and you could put my knowledge of php on the full stop at the end of this sentence.

And there is lots and lots of help around 🙂

Good point. Well, for one thing I wanted to move the typical sidebar and the stuff that comes with it [categories, archives, blog entries] to another section on the website.

For example, on my site, http://www.networkersville.com , I want to move the content on the sidebar to other sections of the website. In place of that, I wanted to put some banners or other content in the sidebar for that particular section– which in this case is the homepage.

So I’m thinking I need to know some PHP to create a new sidebar for this stuff???

    No PHP 🙂

You say you want to move content to other sections, but how ?
For instance, do you want links to be in a sidebar on a different page, or for a page of just links ?

Or, did you want the sidebar to look just as it is on the other pages, but be different only on the home page ?

If it’s the latter, then a bit of php is needed but you don’t need to know it, you just paste it and just accept what it does 🙂

    It’s all very doable !

Yes. To clarify further, I want the sidebar moved to another page, specifically the blog section.

And then I want to create a new sidebar or no sidebar at all, for the other pages.

If you can point me to some resources, that would be cool Podz.
