Support » Fixing WordPress » 3.1.1 won't recognize themes

  • Just did the auto update to 3.1.1 and now the only theme it will recognize is the stupid twenty ten default.

The real theme files show up on my FTP, but not in the WP theme manager. WP Theme manager also won’t let me re-upload the theme from zip.

I don’t understand how the site can be using files that aren’t on the FTP, or why the WP theme manager view doesn’t see the real theme that’s installed.

Meanwhile my site is completely borked.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress.

I’m having the exact same problem. I just uploaded a theme folder into my WP-Content through FTP but I can’t see this theme on my wp-admin.

    All my plugins are deactivated…

sometimes the themes are uploaded with an identical folder within the zip or if you ftp a folder, check to make sure there isnt another identical folder. double folders cause that error.
