I tried an automatic upgrade from 3.1 to 3.1.1. It failed, as automatic upgrades tend to do (may be the last time I try that).

Anyway, I recovered by performing a full manual upgrade. The site is working but my dashboard keeps telling me:

An automated WordPress update has failed to complete – please attempt the update again now.

How do I get rid of this message. Is there a file I have to delete or edit?

    Try:
    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

    – re-running the upgrade manually using wp-admin/upgrade.php.

    – switched themes – no change.

    – reset plugins folder – no change.

    – I did the full manual upgrade, including replacing all files – no change.

Did you run the manual upgrade with the plugins folder still reset and Twenty Ten active?

    Did that. No change.

Can you try repairing your database and then re-running the upgrade?
