My website is being flooded with newusers. I’m getting 100’s of new users daily. I only had about 90 users and now I have 3,700 and growing. I searched support forum and the most recent thread I found is about 2 years old.

Does anyone have a suggestion for how to fix this? Or can point me to a thread?

I have been running the most up to date version of WP. I also have been using plugin SI-CAPTCHA Anti-Spam.

I changed my admin password and DB key in config, but I still am getting new users. I got about 60 new users today. Thanks.

Just do a search in your add new plugin page for Stop Spammer Registrations Plugin.
Or got to the authors site http://www.blogseye.com

That should fix you right up! 🙂

I installed the Stop Spammer Registrations Plugin. Overnight in an 8 hour period, it stopped 21 known spam user addresses from registering, but 33 new spam users registered.

The plugin does what its designed to do which is compare new user email addresses and IP adresses to a database of known spammers and block them if there is a match. I’m going to install the API so the new addresses being used to hit my website can be added to the database.

However, I still have a serious problem with spam user registrations. Is there something that I can change in the code? Thanks.

In Settings>>General>>Membership un-check “Anyone can register”

Also, you need 3 peices of spammer info in order to submit to anti-spam databases. username, email and IP. WP doesn’t log the new user IP, so if you install Register IP – MultiSite it will take care of that.
Here is a very handy tool for checking and submitting spammers http://www.gunnerinc.com/fslcinfo.htm
It will check against 14 databases and submit to 2 (SFS and BotScout) it also has a very fast batch submitter.

I changed the settings>general>membership and didn’t get any new spammer users overnight. It seems to be working.

I’m planning to use http://www.gunnerinc.com to verify new users.

    Thanks.
