I’ll be simplifying the commenting process on my site to display only the name and comment fields. I’ll be moderating all comments.
I’m wondering how bots that go around spamming sites interact with the comment form, and if you’d suggest keeping the field in the form, but of type hidden with a default value of, say, none@nothing.com — or if the field should be removed all together?
My guess in the dark is that leaving the field as a hidden element might still get filled in by spam bots (a good thing) so that Akismet can use the value to help filter out the unwanted comments.
Thoughts?
