I want to learn Word\Press and so went to .org and followed the instructions for “easy 5-minute Installation on Windows”. It is now some 3 hours later and nothing seems to work at all – I have a 2-years old Toshiba laptop running Win7 home edition.

I downloaded something from the Microsoft site (it is where the link from .org sent me) and followed everything to the letter having printed the instructions first. I have had to put lots of different passwords and user names into various dialogue boxes – but most of these I have had to make up. I got as far as Microsoft Web Matrix control panel and from there I can see “my we sites” folder and other links, but when i try to launch anything I just get a message that “localhost8080 cannot be accessed” – sometimes it is local host(and a random number, not 8080).

I have never encountered anything as unintuitive as this install – have I missed something significant here? I see people keep mentioning “wp-admin”, but I have not seen this nor been able to navigate to it (there is nothing when I search my laptop).

Why is all this not an easier process? Can anyone help?

    Can I get an uninstaller?

    HELP

    esmi,

Thanks for link. Not really any help to me to be honest as I had seen this already.

I have now manually un-installed every element of the horribly pervasive suite of programmes that were downloaded with the web-platform installer including over 1500 registry entries!!

Before doing this I had another go at installing with exactly the same results – I wrote down every password at every stage of the process and still the same inability to access localhost. Life’s too short – I am reverting to a better way..

The question is, which one webserver do you pick? I think alot webserver program provided on the internet, like appserv, xampp, wampp, phptriad, easyphp… or you just run iis from the windows it self.

if you run xampp maybe this link can help you. And you could setup some vhost for better.

For create a vhost maybe this link and this can help you.

For uninstaller software if you need uninstall software better you can use “Revo Uninstaller Pro”, in my experience no junk file left behind.

Did you put localhost8080 or localhost:8080 into your browser address bar?
